His father taught him basic painting techniques, but it was under the guidance of various restorers that he was to develop the knowledge and techniques which led to the style which today is known as Erudite Painting or Anachronism. Towards the end of the 1970s Ippoliti, like many other arstists of his generation, started to feel attracted to the particular charm of antiquity.
Going against the tide of avantgardism, which, until then, had been the supreme protagonist of the art scene in Italy, he began a pictorial quest, aiming to rediscover the skill of painting by looking into the art of the 16th century....
